The Devil Made me Do it!

Welcome to Sunday, April 8th which is a 5 in Numerology.

Today’s card is The Devil. Do not take this card as a negative. The Devil is aware of the darkness, it knows what shadows lurk but that does not stop it from moving forward, no matter what the price. Society used to burn people at the stake when new ideas would unfold because they said it was ‘of the devil’.

Combined with today’s energy of the 5 of personal freedom, unconventional individualism, and non-attachment they are telling you to start focusing on the positive choices in your life instead of focusing so much on the negative.

Many people suffer from addiction. When I speak of addiction it just doesn’t mean from drugs, alcohol or sex, although it could mean this too, I am speaking of addiction to patterns. We get stuck in patterns that we don’t like and therefore think that is who we are, that we can never change. And when we repeat these addictions, patterns, whatever you want to label them we automatically decide that we are fucked. We’re broken.

Let me give you an example. And I believe I’ve used this one before. I used to smoke cigarettes. I smoked for 10 years. I started when I was in the Marines and quite honestly I never thought I could beat that addiction. I hated myself for it. Every time I would try to quit I found myself back, chained to that cigarette. It wasn’t until I changed my focus and detached myself of the label of ‘smoker’ did it change. People today would never know that I smoked because I don’t label myself as an ‘ex-smoker’. I just don’t smoke.

What labels do you put on yourself? Can you focus on non-attachment to those labels? Once you do then you will set yourself free.

Shake it Up

Welcome to Saturday, April 7th which is a 22 in Numerology.

Today’s card is the 6 of Cups. Pleasure. The 6 is Cups is traditionally that of looking back on pleasurable things, nostalgia. But sometimes when we look back we get stuck there and don’t learn the lessons of why they aren’t there anymore. I’m not trying to be Davey Downer here… I’m just saying, don’t get stuck in the past. You are here now for a reason. Combined with today’s 22 (Spiritual Master Builder) is saying the same exact thing. We will often stay in comfortable situations rather than move forward.

So what does this mean?

Sometimes we have to shake up our lives a bit so that everyone in relationship to each other is on board. People come and go in our lives all the time. I’ve noticed this in our little community here in Las Vegas. A lot of them look at this as a bad thing, as if they’ve done something wrong. No, nobody has done anything wrong, we’ve just gone in different directions.

If you find yourself stuck because you are afraid of change then I challenge you to shake it up a bit and see what happens. You might find that your friends, lovers, family are welcoming that change themselves? It is quite possible that all parties concerned are not happy. Does this mean that you have to part ways with these people?

Not necessarily.

It means that it is possible that you might go in a different direction, but it’s also possible that both parties can grow together, instead of apart.

My challenge for you today is to lay everything out on the table and see what happens. Either way, you will grow. Again, today being a 22, a Master Number is there with its energy to guide you along.

Patagonia vs. Donald Trump

A little background before I get to the point.

In the mid-2000’s I started working for Crispin, Porter & Bogusky. A good buddy of mine that I raced Mt. Bikes in South Florida with (I know what you’re thinking… what mountains? Yeah, I’ve heard that a lot.) told me about one of his buddies that also did a lot of Mt. Biking. He also told me that buddy was Alex Bogusky, part owner of CP+B Ad Agency. To me, it was divine timing considering that I was looking for something better than just a J.O.B.. I wanted something that I could sink my teeth into and feel proud of.

I went down to Coconut Grove (Miami) where the company was at the time and was immediately hired. I felt right at home.

The reason I loved this place so much was, for the most part, Alex’s vision. I remember the company dumping Body Bags on the steps of Phillip Morris during their ‘Truth’ campaign. That was the campaign that had the biggest effect on me. The fact that an Ad Agency had the balls to take on big tobacco. HUGE! And me having worked for Greenpeace, Amnesty International, building cycling trails in my community… it was a natural fit.

When I was told that part of the company was going to move to Boulder, Colorado I jumped on it. Boulder… it’s like Mecca for cyclists. To this day, even though I don’t live there anymore, I claim it as my home. My buddy who had introduced me to Alex also ended moving his whole family out there where he becomes the worlds first (if I’m correct) Extreme Concierge. What is an Extreme Concierge? It’s a dude, well… my buddy, who we would call Macgyver. He could fix anything, create anything… he has that kind of mind that when you tell him he’s building it in his head. He would fix people’s bikes, he would wax snowboards and skis. There wasn’t anything that he can’t tackle… and Alex saw this in him. That’s what kind of a visionary Alex is.

When I asked Alex what gave him such inspiration he turned me on to a few people he respected, and one of those men was Yvon Chouinard.

I’m getting to my point…

Yvon wrote a book called, “Let my People Go Surfing.” It was a business book. It was a book on how to keep people happy and productive in a company, and it was a lot of how CP+B conducted business as well. I could see the similarities between CP+B and Patagonia. If you let people do what they do best, give them the environment to do it, they will take ownership. And that is the key to anything, I think. When it becomes personal, you own it. It’s no longer a job.

My Point…

Below is an article in GQ written by Rosecrans Baldwin. He interviewed Yvon. Yvon is suing the White House right now and I think you deserve to know why. This isn’t left-wing propaganda. This isn’t some company saying that the Trump administration is screwing them out of profits. This is a war against an administration that is taking public lands and what one company is willing to do to stop them.

Change

Welcome to Friday, April 6th which is a 3 in Numerology.

Today’s card is 2 of Disks. Change. Combined with today’s 3 energy of Growth and Expansion, today is an amazing day to recognize it!

Look at the card. See the Yin/Yang symbol in it? This is telling us that there always needs to be a balance. With every positive, there needs to be an equal negative. As we grow in our consciousness we have to embrace the heartbreak, the ‘bad things’ that are happening to us as part of that growth. We have to remind ourselves that we still live in this 3D realm and that in this realm change is inevitable. We can go kicking and screaming, or we can move along peacefully and make the change for ourselves instead of having things change for us.

Remember in my previous blog where I said that I didn’t want to get hit by cars anymore? I was allowing change to happen ‘to’ me instead of me making the change myself. We all know when it’s time to change. We feel it inside of us. Most of us deny. Be brush it off as something we don’t want to look at and maybe it will go away.

We have to trust that the Universe has our highest and best interest. We are not here on this plane to be victims of some vindictive god who punishes us, no more than a parent wants to help and nurture their children.

Today I want you to allow change to happen in your life. Feel what it feels like to accept that change. Know that it has your back and that it will bring you to the next level in your life, even if it looks like it’s going to suck. Trust the Universe.

Welcome to Thursday, April 5th which is a 2 in Numerology.

Today’s card is the Hermit. This card is about looking inward. Looking at the puzzle and using our intuition, self-reflection, and self-realization. Combined with the energy of today’s 2 of longing to return to unity it is telling us to look for the unity within ourselves. Father/Mother/God, Conscious/Subconscious/Superconscious, however, you view the trine of self.

Yesterday, with the Emperor, we stood up for what we believed in. We said that what we feel, who we are, and what we are doing is valid. So today we go inward and reflect on that.

What do we want? Where are we going?

If we had zero financial limitations what would we dream for ourselves?

Martin Luther King had a dream, a dream that he died for. What are you willing to die for? What is your highest purpose here on this planet? Is it to have a miserable job to get some money to buy stuff that you think will make you happy? Remember, money is energy. It’s an exchange. Look deep inside of yourself today, in that intricate puzzle of self and ask yourself if you are being compensated enough for your worth.

If you say that you are not, then it is time for you to put your foot down and start demanding your worth. Once you do this people will look at you differently. They will start asking themselves the same question. This is where leaders are born.

Do you believe in what you see?

Welcome to Wednesday, April 4th which is a 1 in Numerology.

Today’s card is the Emperor. He stands for Law and Order. He is the abstraction of establishment, it’s stability and security. Combined with the energy of the 1; Justice for all, Leadership, Independence and New Beginnings. Today is a day to be firm in your conviction. You know deep in your heart what you want, so stand up for yourself.

Years ago I was in a relationship that I just did what I was told. I became the Housewife, in sorts. It was an emasculating role and a role I seem to fall into over time, a habit. It’s not the fault of my partners, but a fault in myself. There’s a belief system in there that I am not good enough. I can’t get out of my head what my father said to me when I was ending one of these relationships, “Davey… you and I need women like this in our lives.” It was a gift from the Angels to hear this because it planted a seed. I had to hear that to remind myself that I do not ‘need’ anybody. To ‘need’ someone says that we can’t do it ourselves.

I know that I’m not the only one that falls into this trap that we create. No matter what we do, or how successful we become we still feel that we aren’t good enough. It’s not fair to our partners nor to ourselves. So how do we change it?

The best way I know is to surround yourself with a community that supports you, but even still that doesn’t seem to help at times so it might mean taking drastic measures. I know for myself I have been called to do Ayahuasca. I believe this is a journey I must take to get rid of the old demons. It’s a plant medicine that has been calling me for a few years now. I know that this medicine will get me out of these limiting beliefs.

I am good enough. I’ve proven it time after time. And I know you have to. But are you willing to make a stand for yourself and do the work? It will take focus and responsibility. It will take holding yourself accountable at all costs.

Just go with the Flow

Welcome to Tuesday, April 3rd which is a 9 in Numerology.

Today’s card is the 5 of Wands. It wants radical, aggressive movement and renewal. Combined with today’s number 9 of Universal love and selflessness it is asking us to give in. Let go. Quit trying to control outcomes which we don’t have control over anyway.

I am a stubborn Leo. As much as I believe in change, I still have a hard time making changes. I have a pattern… I usually get hit by cars. I know it sounds strange, but every time I knew it was time for a change and I didn’t follow through with the change I would get hit by a car. As if the Universe was saying… “Ok. I was trying to warn you, but I guess now I have to take drastic measures.”

I don’t want to get hit by a car again. It hurts and the recovery time gets longer and longer as I get older.

What areas of your life do you know you need to change but are being stubborn? Why does fear control you? What would your life look like if you just went with the flow of life instead of trying to swim upstream?
