Life Rewards Bold Action

Ok.. I stole the heading for this blog from a quote my friend Aviva made. She is making some bold moves in her life and ever since she decided to follow her gut, things have been changing for her. Her mantra is;  Follow your gut, do your due diligence and let the Universe provide what it will.

I can relate to this completely. I have been walking to the beat of my own drum for the last year or so. Not an easy quest, but very gratifying. I have my days (last night) where I go into total panic mode and wonder if I’m really the spiritual being that I profess to be. Nobody is perfect.

I spend the last 17 days in Massachusetts with my friend Heidi. Both of us got our Level II Reiki Certification and are open to the possibilites that it offers. We are both insanely excited about this.

I have officially left ‘The Constant’ as their lead vocalist. I wish them luck in their future ventures.

As for myself, the album with Ged Rylands in the UK is still being worked on as well as still completing an album with Chris Melekyan.

I’m open to new Vocal work if you know of anybody looking.
Peace,
D

Live Young Forever

Fitness, and the lack thereof it, has been on my mind lately. Up until the beginning of this year I was a Cycling zealot. I was religiously on my bicycle 3 to 6 days a week for years. Last summer I had flown back to Colorado to do Ride the Rockies which was a 6 day 411 mile bicycle ride that went from Crested Butte, Colorado to Georgetown, Colorado. Over 30,000 feet of climbing. THAT was what I was used to.

For whatever reason living out here in L.A. has changed that. I’m not going to go into beatup mode. I’m just looking at it and wondering what is going on. And on closer inspection I’ve looked at other areas in my life. How are they doing? Am I lacking there as well? On the contrary! I’ve been doing tremendous amounts of spiritual growth. Taking classes, coaching and mentoring people. Musically I’ve been progressing tremendously as well. Recording with major players in the industry. Meeting new and exciting people. I’ve attracted the love of my life to me. Everything is going just grand. 🙂
So what’s the deal dude?

Well.. ask and you shall receive. Right?

Being with Heidi these past several (AMAZING) months I’ve noticed her workout routine. She NEVER misses a workout. There is no doubt why she has a rock solid figure. So I was just doing my random google searching and came across a book by Jack LaLanne. I got it and started reading it. It’s called, “Live Young Forever”.  He talks about diet, sex, having a positive outlook on life, etc. Very inspirational.

Well.. as spirit would guide me..

I sent an email to a friend this morning about a possible gig for her. I noticed that she was in New Bedford, Massachusetts. I was like… I know New Bedford! My Uncle Dave owns a place right in Fairhaven, Massachusetts just a couple of miles away! So I did my google search to find the address. Instead I came across this magazine article about my Uncle Dave.

In 2007 at the age of 92 my Uncle David Ward was a triple gold metalist in cycling at the Louisville, Ky., Senior Olympics. I have zero excuses. Here is a family member. Our own Jack LaLanne who I’ve known about and have looked up to for years. I come from an amazingly active family. It’s time to get back on the bike.

Day 1

See you there.

Cha… cha… cha… Changes.

Summer is almost here and a lot has been happening…..

For the last several months I’ve been working with Ged Rylands on his up and coming release (due out this summer). I’ve always enjoyed Prog music with the keyboards, big guitars, etc. Bands like Dream Theater and Ten come to mind when I hear what Ged is doing. Right up my alley!

In the line-up are Neil FraserVinny Burns, Ralph Santolla, Guest Vocalists Harry Hess and Danny Vaughn, who each sing a track on the album, and myself singing on rest of the tracks.

I laid down all of the tracks at Track Entertainment Studios in Sherman Oaks, California. My Producer was non other than Rock Legend Kane Roberts. Bruce Mee, Ged’s long time Manager, commissioned Kane to work with me. The original plan was to fly me to Stockholm to record the album over there. What a pleasant surprise it was to to stay here in Sunny Southern California and get to work with Kane. Life is Great. Ain’t it?

Here are links to interviews with Ged on the new release coming out in the Summer of 2012.

KILL RITUAL: Another Song Available For Streaming

“Law Of The Land”, a new song from KILL RITUAL, the band featuring former members of IMAGIKA, DARK ANGEL and ELDRITCH, can be streamed using the SoundCloud player below. The track comes off the group’s debut album, “The Serpentine Ritual”, which will be released later this year via an as-yet-undetermined record kabel. The CD cover artwork was designed by Brazilian artist Jobert Mello‘s Sledgehammer Graphix (SABATON, BAD COMPANY).

“The Serpentine Ritual” was mixed at KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy La Rocque‘s’s Sonic Train Studio in Varberg, Sweden. La Rocque also plays a guest guitar solo on the track “Coat Of Blood”. Guitarist Steve Rice engineered the CD, which was tracked at Fang Studios in San Mateo, California and Fossil Studios in San Jose, California.

According to a press release, “The Serpentine Ritual” “finds KILL RITUAL unleashing 10 tracks of straight-up metal that is both modern and classic while retaining the legacy of their past bands.”

“The Serpentine Ritual” track listing:

01. The Serpentine Ritual
02. Torn Down
03. Time To Kill
04. Ambush
05. Old School Thrasher
06. Coat Of Blood
07. Cold Hard Floor
08. Law Of The Land
09. The Day The World Dies
10. Prisoner Of The Flesh

The “The Serpentine Ritual” title track is available for streaming in the YouTube clip below.

KILL RITUAL is looking for a suitable label to release “Serpentine Rituals”. Interested parties can contact the band at killritualmetal@gmail.com.

Formed in late 2010 by former IMAGIKA lead guitarist Steven Rice and drummer Wayne De Vecchi, KILL RITUAL is completed by former ELDRITCH guitarist Roberto Proietti, former DARK ANGEL bassist Danyael Williams and Bay Area vocalist Josh Gibson.

Commented Steven: “After the demise of IMAGIKA, Wayne and I decided to form a new band that would bring life to the music we had been working on after IMAGIKA called it a day. We had a goal in mind of writing music that reflected our influences from thrash, classic, progressive, power, whatever-kicks-ass metal and this required bringing in experienced players that have been there and done that. We were lucky enough to come in contact with Roberto and Danyael, who had the kind of pedigree and experience we were definitely looking for.

“Having both been in bands that have released numerous albums worldwide and toured extensively, they are a perfect fit for this new band. The missing element was, of course, vocalist Josh, who came into the band with the work ethic, experience and attitude that is essential as a vocalist to help the songs take on a life of their own. His unique and identifiable vocal style is the change we needed from our past projects as we definitely had the idea of KILL RITUAL taking a new direction from our collective past bands and I think we have achieved that. I mean, what’s the point of rehashing what you’ve already done? I feel the four rough demo tracks [we have released] show this and are only a hint of what’s to come.”

KILL RITUAL is:

Josh Gibson – Vocals
Steven Rice – Lead Guitar
Roberto Proietti – Guitar
Wayne De Vecchi – Drums
Danyael Williams – Bass

The Voice Audition

A friend suggested around the beginning of the year that I put in audition videos for The Voice and other such programs. So I figured, why not? Right? So I submitted a video of me singing. Low and behold! I got a confirmation to audition on March 31st at 2pm in Burbank!!! Woo Hoo!

If I could get all of you to help me pick out a song to do for the audition. One that showcases my range, style, etc. it would be much appreciated. I’ll be working on this myself. I was thinking of doing Leonard Cohens ‘Hallelujah’ but it might be a bit slow. Not sure yet. I’ll have to play around with it.

Several years ago I auditioned for Rockstar:Supernova. And although I wasn’t chosen it was a great experience. I stood in line for over 5 hours! When I finally made it to the stage they were overwhelmed with people and only allowed us to sing a verse and a chorus. Back then I sang Audioslave’s ‘Be Yourself’.

If any of you have auditioned for The Voice I would love to talk to you about your experience.
Hit me up!

Peace,
Dave

New Years Affirmation

What is the difference between an affirmation and a resolution?

According to the Merriam-Webster an affirmation is something that is affirmed; a statement or proposition that is declared to be true.

A Resolution is the act of analyzing a complex notion into simpler ones.

New Years Day

My friends and I were in the kitchen chopping vegetables for our New Years Day breakfast. We started talking about manifestation. What does it really mean? And is it really possible?
I told them about something I had learned years ago in a seminar called ‘Abundance and Prosperity’. I then asked them to try a little experiment when they were ready for bed. And I encourage you to try this experiment as well.

Focus on finding a dollar bill. Not in your wallet or in your car, house, etc… but actually finding one on the street or on the floor in the grocery store. Anywhere really. As long as it wasn’t previously in your possession.

They agreed to this with a ‘why not’ gesture. What can it hurt? Right? My next question for everybody was this,

“What if finding $15,000 was as easy as finding a dollar?”

I mean really, whats the difference between a dollar and $15,000 to the Universe? Chump change. The only difference is this. We don’t believe its possible because things just don’t pop up out of thin air. Or do they?

Why not?

I mean, when I was a kid we had a home phone with a cord on it. And we had to rotate a dial for each number. God forbid you had a number with a few 8s, 9s or Zeros. Exhausting. And look at us now. We’ve got these little iphones that we can place a call virtually anywhere and even text people or play games on them. Unheard of! It’s like Star Trek!

Now I know what you’re saying… there was an evolution to the basic Bell phone to the iPhone. I agree. There was. How about this then? Ever notice that when you just let go everything seems to come to you when you need it? Be it a friend with a kind word, or that check in the mail that came right at the perfect time for you to pay a bill? How does that happen?

After our amazing breakfast we then brainstormed about our intentions for the coming year. What was it that we wanted? Individually and collectively, and how could we support one another? It’s an amazing thing when you state your intentions out loud. It’s like signing a lease. All the fears and anxieties are right there in your face. Can’t back out now. You’re committed.
We took a long walk on the beach, enjoying the beauty of where we live here in Southern California. Each one of us stated our intentions.

Focusing as if it had already happened.

See. I believe that is the key. You have to feel it. You have to pretend that it has already happened. Quite exciting really. When you open up and pretend, just like you did when you were a little kid. The fantasy of having everything you want happen already happening?
One of our friends was a little stuck on the idea. “But how? How can this happen?” Don’t concentrate on the how. Let the Universe handle that.

A seed was planted in my head from that morning about the difference between One Dollar and $15,000. I figured why not let that be my first affirmation of the year? So, I created my affirmation to have $15,000 by January 29th. How is this going to happen? I’m not exactly sure how. Why will it happen? Because I believe that it will. And I’ll keep you up to date on my progress throughout this month.

Below are a few affirmations you might want to try yourself. To kind of change your internal programming about money.

Affirmations:
I earn $10,000 a month doing things I love and enjoy. I love having money. I love spending money on my favorite causes. I love giving money away. I love the freedom of having money. I live in an abundant universe. I always have everything I really need. I am the source of my abundance. I accept prosperity and abundance into my life. People honor and value my work. All the money I spend helps others and comes back to me multiplied. I am grateful for all the money I have and earn. I am open to receive money. I give generously to myself and others. I am generous. I feel great about all the money I spend.
