Octaves Above Design  • Las Vegas, NV • Sep 1994 – Present

Freelance Art Director / Graphic Designer / Production Artist
I’ve been fortunate in this field to start from the ground up, and see first-hand how technology and social media has influenced and altered what we do and how we can do it. Back in 1994, after working in many copy shops, I moved to Florida where I took on my first real role as a Graphic Designer. My very first task was to transition all of the clients to digital. At that time it was quite a task, but a necessary one to bring us to where we are today. I retain a lot of that ‘old school’ Art Direction of making an impact subtlety. I’ve traditionally done freelance most of my career, only taking full-time positions in companies that I completely believed in. One of them being Crispin, Porter + Bogusky. I continue to strive to learn more as I go along. The main tools that I’ve consistently used are InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. You will see me delve into other programs such as QuarkXPress, Dreamweaver, Pro-Tools, Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro as well. I’ve been a subcontractor through Aquent, 24 Seven, and the Creative Group for companies that include: Deutsche, Russ Reid, 180LA,  and The Integer Group, and I am still on their list for jobs as they arise even today.

Since moving to Las Vegas in 2013 I have done design for bands and clubs in the area, even my own. This brings me back full circle. The reason I got into design in the first place was the necessity for band flyers to promote my music. Merging design and music brings me tremendous joy and I do my best to reflect this in my work.

Crispin Porter + Bogusky • Boulder, CO • Jan 2006 – Mar 2009

Digital Artist
Starting out in Miami and then having CP + B relocate me to Boulder, Colorado. I’ve had the honor to design for clients such as Nike, Coke Zero, VW, Haggar, Miller, Giro, Bell, and Microsoft. My ads can be seen in Playboy, Cycling, Velo News, Bicycling and Snowboarder to name a few.

Zimmerman & Partners • Fort Lauderdale, FL • Jan 2004 – Sep 2005

Graphic Designer
I worked exclusively on Lennar Homes. My responsibilities included Ad Design, Resizing, and getting files ready for newspapers and magazines. Logo design for new communities was what I enjoyed most about this job. I ended up leaving to take a few months of recovery time after being hit by a car while commuting to work on my bicycle. When I moved to Colorado I remember seeing one of the developments that I had created the Logo for outside on the wall. It was one of those, “Hey, I did that.” moments.

Digital Color Technology • Cooper City, FL • Jan 2000 – Jan 2004

Graphic Designer
Photo Retouching and Graphic Design for Maxim, Robb Report, Southern Boating and Crescent Publishing. This job was such a great place to work and such an intense learning time in my life. I learned color correction, retouching, layout, and much more in my short 4 years with these folks.

Empire Toys • Delray Beach, FL • Jan 1997 – Jan 2000

Graphic Designer
Graphic Designer / Package Designer for Big Wheel as well as repackaging for Buddy L. It’s always fun working on toys and especially exciting working on intricate die lines for packaging. Other perks of this job were sitting around brainstorming names of Bugs and other such toys for the market. It’s fun to get paid to be a kid.

Resume

I am an Art Director, Graphic Designer, Production Artist, Reiki Master and Musician. I love the outdoors and all it has to offer, be it cycling, snowboarding or hiking, my natural sense of curiosity has brought me down many different paths. From my service as a United States Marine, to political activist with Greenpeace and Amnesty International, to singer in a rock band. I’ve always taken the road less traveled.
